Poppy & Grain-Filled Oval Rushnyk Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A large oval medallion, outlined in red and capped with golden wave borders, is filled with a yellow-and-white diamond pattern dotted with golden grains. A garland of bright red poppies with green leaves curves around the egg, and a narrow rushnyk-style band with a fine white crosshatch texture runs down the opposite side, finished with bands of spiral scrollwork and star-rosette diamonds.
Poppies are a folk symbol of remembrance and family memory, while the rushnyk band recalls the embroidered ceremonial towels used in Ukrainian weddings and rituals to bring blessing into the home. The oval medallion reflects the old belief in the egg as a small image of the world.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
