Poppy & Diamond Egg Medallion Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A garland of bright red poppies with green leaves spreads across the dark wine-red shell, opposite a white-outlined oval medallion filled with a yellow-and-black diamond lattice and a small central star rosette. Narrow decorative bands of spiral scrollwork, wave borders, and diagonal lattice stripes wrap around the rest of the egg.
Poppies are a folk symbol of remembrance and family memory, while the oval medallion reflects the old belief in the egg as a small image of the world.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
