Poppy, Sun & Rushnyk Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. Red poppy blossoms with green leaves crown the top of the egg on a dark ground, a black-and-white beaded "rushnyk" (woven-towel) stripe runs down from the very top, and a dense red-and-gold diamond-lattice band is scattered with small sun-rosette accents.
The rushnyk stripe takes its name from the traditional woven ceremonial towel, the small sun-rosettes are one of the most recognizable solar motifs in pysanka art, and the poppy carries long-standing folk associations with remembrance and family memory.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line and petal may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
