Historically pysanky egg art appeared in Slavonic heathenism, when people honoured the sun and the land for their gifts, creating such beautiful talismans made of eggs painted with different ornaments. It was a symbol of sun and this is how the tradition of Ukrainian painted eggs appeared. After the Christianity was established in Ukraine pysanka eggs became a traditional attribute of Easter, you can see it at any home in Ukraine and many other countries of the world. The old tradition to decorate goose eggs with hand paintings became a religious one associated with Eastern. The name of pysanka comes from word “pysaty” (write in English). Using sharp metal pens masters of this handicraft draw elegant wax ornaments. Then the egg is put into the cup with colour ink and dried. After this wax is cut off, revealing the ornament. The procedure is repeated a few times until all ornaments are finished. This hand painted artwork is a valuable souvenir that will be a perfect family present.
