Sun Fan & Scroll Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A white sun-fan motif spreads across each end of the egg — long white rays radiating from a golden center, scattered with tiny red dots and trimmed with golden scrollwork. Between the two fans runs a narrow striped center line flanked by golden spiral scrolls. A wide white checkered band separates the top from the body, which is covered in a yellow-and-black diamond lattice filled with green leaf-drop shapes and small golden rosettes.
The sun-fan motif is one of the oldest pysanka symbols, representing the life-giving power of the sun, while the spiral scrollwork stands for life force and continuity.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
