Poppy Garland & Rushnyk Mesh Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A garland of bright red poppies with golden wheat sprigs and green leaves curves around a dark wine-red crown decorated with white spiral scrollwork. A narrow rushnyk-style band with a fine white crosshatch texture runs down the side of the egg, and the rest of the shell is covered in a dense yellow-and-black diamond lattice, set with white cross-patterned diamonds and small golden grains.
Poppies are a folk symbol of remembrance and family memory, and the rushnyk band recalls the embroidered ceremonial towels used in Ukrainian homes to bring blessing.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
