Poppy & Wheat Leaf Panel Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A leaf-shaped central panel runs from top to bottom, outlined in a white zigzag border and filled with bright red poppies, golden wheat sprigs, and green leaves. On either side, the rest of the egg is covered in a dense red, yellow, and black diamond lattice, with a narrower decorative band of red and yellow diamonds set in a white crosshatch frame.
Poppies are a folk symbol of remembrance and family memory, while wheat sprigs stand for abundance and a good harvest — together combining themes of remembrance and prosperity in one design.
Being originally a symbol of the sun and the birth of life, hand-painted Ukrainian eggs became a traditional gift and an attribute of Easter, the holiday honoring the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. A pysanka is a dried eggshell decorated with painted symbols, each line and color carrying its own meaning. Kept on the table during Easter, such eggs served as a talisman of wellbeing and were believed to bring positive energy into the home, often passed down from one generation to the next.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
