Crystal Zigzag Diamond Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. Vertical bands of gold lattice and dotted lines radiate from the crown over a deep burgundy ground, opening into a sharp crystal-point zigzag border and a dense red-and-gold diamond-lattice band scattered with small green accents.

The sharp triangle border is a long-standing pysanka motif tied to order and the turning of the seasons. The deep burgundy background lets the gold and red patterning stand out with extra depth and richness.

About Pysanka Tradition

In the old times eggs were associated with different powers of nature. For ones it was a model of the world, like a sun inside different life-giving shells. For others it was a symbol of fertility to be honoured. Ukrainian Easter egg symbols appeared long ago, representing a junction between ancient history and the Christian era. The name “pysanka” comes from the Ukrainian “pysaty,” meaning “to write, to paint.” Today, Ukrainian, Romanian, and Polish Easter eggs share a lot in common because of their shared origin. Pysanky eggs are also associated with the symbolism of the Holy Trinity, and the tradition remains popular across Eastern Europe. Carrying forward this old custom as a living tradition, people see in the pysanka a store of life, love, and energy — giving one as a gift is a way of showing warmth and good will toward someone you value. Pysanka eggs are made from goose eggs and painted with natural inks, using a process essentially unchanged since old times.
