Poppy Rushnyk Egg Medallion Pysanka — a real Ukrainian goose egg, hand-painted in the traditional wax-batik technique. A garland of red poppies with white-dotted centers winds around the shell, opposite a red-outlined egg-shaped medallion packed with a fine red-and-white diamond lattice, framed by golden wave borders. Between them runs a wide rushnyk-style band, striped in red with small woven diamond squares, finished off with a scalloped crenellated border and a ribbon of white scrollwork.
The poppy is a folk symbol of remembrance and family memory, while the rushnyk band echoes the embroidered ceremonial towels used in Ukrainian weddings and rituals to bring blessing into a home.
As each egg is painted entirely by hand, the exact placement of every line may vary slightly from the photos — this is part of what makes every pysanka one of a kind.
